'MAGIC MICHAEL DRIVES REEVES ON TO FIRST WIN'

On a much colder Saturday morning Reeves were looking to secure their first win of the season. The first 10 minutes was an even match with both teams playing well and having a few opportunities. An outstanding save by Ollie diving full length to push the ball around the post denied Burghfield from taking the lead. However, a couple of minutes later Burghfield did take the lead after we failed to get the ball clear. This seemed to spur the boys on though. Christian, Alfie and Jay were all having strong games in defence, winning tackles and getting the ball clear whilst Harrington was strating to take a hold of midfield and after winning the ball in the box he unleashed a great drive into the top corner of the net to bring Reeves back level. With renewed confidence Reeves kept pushing forward with Daniel battling hard in midfield and Liam working hard on the wing. Just before half time, Micheal received the ball out on the touchline and after cutting inside he put in a fantastic cross which the Burghfield goalie failed to hold and the ball fell over the line with Liam making sure the ball hit the net. At half time the score was 2-1 to Reeves. The second half started fairly even but as the match wore on Reeves got stronger and stronger with Michael playing really well in midfield. The passing between the boys was excellent and at one point a wonderful 1-2 between Alfie and Harrington nearly led to the 3rd goal with Alfie's shot being blocked. Harrington was running at the Burghfield defence and creating opportunities for himself and others as Reeves kept knocking on the door for another goal. Finally the 3rd goal came as Liam, who was having a storming game in midfield, got a deserving goal as he shot past the Burghfield goalkeeper into the net. As the final minutes ticked by Jay, Christian and Daniel held strong at the back to prevent Burghfield from having any more shots. The final score was 3-1 to Reeves giving the boys a well deserved first win of the season.

The Spectators Award for the week was given to Harrington and the Effort Award for the week was given to Michael.

'DANIEL DAZZLES BUT REEVES COME UP SHORT AGAINST LEAGUE LEADERS'

Following a well earned draw the previous week, Reeves went into this match against the league leaders full of confidence and started the match strongly with some good passing moves. In midfield Alfie, Liam. Michael and Daniel were creating chances whilst in defence Jay, Christian and Harrington looked solid. However, after a promising start Reeves were unlucky to fall behind half way through the first half when we feailed to clear the ball in the box allowing the Unity forward time to slot the ball home. Following this, Unity came on stronger but were denied with some brave saves by Ollie as he dived at the forwards feet before pulling off an amazing save, diving full length to push a unity shot over the cross bar. At half time depsite being 1-0 down the boys were very much still in the game.

At the start of the second half Reeves started to exert some pressure on the Unity goal but just could not put the ball into the net despite many goal mouth scrambles. In defence, Daniel was having a great game, winning tackles and working hard to keep Unity at bay but despite the boys trying really hard we were unlucky to concede two more goals in the second half finally losing the match 3-0. At the end of the match the Unity manager said that we were very unlucky and how impressed he had been with the amount and quality of our passing. Overall, the scoreline did not refelect how well the boys had done, however, if they continue to work hard and pass the ball we are sure that the results will come in the next few weeks.

'ALFIE BAGS BRACE AS REEVES UNLUCKY NOT TO SECURE FIRST WIN'

Following a heavy defeat in the first league game of the season the boys put in a great and much improved performance to secure their first point of the season. Playing in a new formation of 1,3,3 the team looked much more balanced. In defence Christian put in another strong performance whilst Daniel and Liam tracked back well and made a number of important tackes. Across the midfield Harrington, Michael, Jay and Alfie started to display some excellent passing, which we have worked hard on over the summer, to create a number of chances. Whilst in goal Ollie put in a terrific performance pulling off a number of vital saves. At half time the score was 0-0.

Reeves took the lead midway through the second half after a corner from Harrington was met with a classy touch from Alfie which flashed into the net. However, Reeves did not hold on to the lead for long as Westwood equalised through a deflected free kick. The match continued to be an even affair with both teams having chances but with Ollie standing tall in goal for Reeves. All of the boys were putting in a huge amount of effort and were rewarded with a second goal in almost identical fashion to the first with Alfie scoring his second goal of the game. As the minutes ticked on it looked like Reeves were going to bounce back with a win but in the last minute the referee awarded a penalty to Westwood which Ollie was able to get a hand to but was not able to keep out. It was a disappointing blow for the boys who had put in so much work but they should feel very proud of the tremendous improvement in their play which will set us up well for the coming weeks.

The Spectators Award for the week was given to Ollie and the Effort Award for the week was given to Liam.

Well done to all the boys!
