Match Report: 04/02/12. Reeves Rangers Vs Reading Town (by Rachel Porter)
The match started with Reeves instantly attacking, Max had the first attempt at goal with his shot hitting the post, Jaden followed up with another great strike but unfortunately it went wide. The boys dominated the play with some great passing between them. Matthew played an excellent ball through to Max who had a shot at goal but just missed. Reading Town made their attack but didn’t manage to score thanks to some superb defending by Reeves. Reeves continued to push forward and finally their efforts were rewarded with a fantastic goal by Matthew, it was 1 - 0 to Reeves. Unfortunately a misjudged pass back by Jaden led to an own goal and the score was level 1 -1. There was a substitution and Josh was brought on for Jaden. Jamie went for goal but the ball rolled just wide. Sam made a brilliant save to stop Reading going ahead. Reading quickly attacked again and this time they managed to slip it past Sam into the bottom right hand corner, it was now 2 - 1 to Reading. Reeves kept their heads up and made another substitution; Jaden came back on determined to make up for his earlier mistake and scored after an accurate cross from Max. The score was 2 -2 going into half time.
Reeves started the 2nd half with Jamie in goal. Matthew took a shot at goal, taking advantage of a poor throw out by the Reading Town keeper but just missed. Reeves continued to apply pressure with constant attempts at goal but frustratingly the ball would not hit the back of the net! Reading Town made a break for goal but our defenders were ready and a tense goal line scuffle ensued. The ball just managed to sneak across the line and Reading Town had taken the lead, 3 -2. Reeves continued to drive forward, desperate to get the equalizer. Sam was doing a great job in defence but a misjudged attempt to clear the ball resulted in another own goal by reeves and the score was 4 - 2 to Reading Town. The boys continued to fight on and some skilful passing between them created numerous chances to score but the reading keeper pulled off some great saves and the ball still refused to cross the line!! The match ended Reading Town 4, Reeves Rangers 2.
The match was entertaining from start to finish. The boys played with passion and drive right up to the final whistle, just such a shame the score wasn’t more reflective of all their hard work and effort. Well done boys!!
Josh did everything that was asked of him and was rewarded with this week’s effort award. Congratulations Joshua, it was well deserved.
The first match of the year could be described as a game of two halves. The first half saw Max in goal, making numerous gutsy saves. Jamie had a good shot on target, which was unfortunately saved by the goalie and Christian had a goal disallowed. The team put up a good defensive wall against a free kick and all were battling hard for the ball. Towards the end of the first half, Jayden picked up the pace and scored three goals in quick succession. In the second half they came out fighting and really upped their game. Within 13 seconds Max slotted the ball into the net, followed a minute later by the first of two goals from Josh. Jayden scored yet another goal, whilst Sam put in some valiant saves every time the ball ventured near him. Yet again Jamie had a fantastic attempt at the goal, but unfortunately it went just wide. Max sealed the game with a further three goals in the last five minutes, earning him a well deserved ‘Man of the Match’. The final score was 10-0 to Reeves, well done all, you played well.
Saturday 19th November 2011 (match report by Clare Amos)
Well with the manager away this week, there was a fair amount of pressure for Reeves Rangers to perform, and during the first half it looked as if it could be anyone’s game.
Reeves started by playing defensively, with Max performing a number of excellent saves in goal, Christian doing some early defending with his face, and a solid defensive wall after a dodgy tackle resulted in a free kick perilously close to the goal.
The second half started at nil – nil, and Reeves came out fighting. After only a few minutes, Matthew powered a goal past the goalie, and followed this up with a cheeky chip in as the goalie dallied with a goal kick. Josh and Christian got stuck in with some great tackling whilst Jaden sped around the pitch at the speed of light, and Sam bounced around in goal sending the ball away every time it came close. Max dribbled the ball past a number of players before slotting the ball neatly in the back of the net, and then assisted Jamie with scoring goal number four.
Matthew went on to score another three goals – one a free kick from the half-way line – bringing his total for the game to 5 and earning him man of the match.
The final score was 7-1 to Reeves and all played an excellent game. Well done boys for all your effort, and a big thanks to top coach Adam for keeping the team on top form.
Saturday 5th November : Reeves Reds Vs Holyport Memorial (match report by Caroline Starkey)
This match was the first football for the team as a whole since before half term and the everyone was present. We knew from our previous match against Holyport Memorial that they were going to be tough opposition.
Jaden was in goal for the first half and straight from the kick off Holyport pushed forwards. Their determination paid off after 3 minutes and we were 0-1 down. Reeves battled hard, Jaden made some excellent saves and Christian was fearless in defence but nothing could stop the second goal flying in from a great strike about a minute later. Matthew came on for the second period of the first half and after a tumbling tussle with a Holyport player he managed to win the drop ball and head off down the other end to get a goal back for Reeves: 1-2. The play then returned to the our end of the pitch and although everyone worked really hard in defence Holyport managed to score again just before half time when the ball took a deflection from a goal kick right into the path of one of their players. Half time score: 1-3.
Joshua went in goal for the second half and Reeves started brightly. More of the play was at the Holyport end of the pitch and Jaden was unlucky to have a powerful strike go just wide. Christian jumped for a header shortly after and unfortunately, although he got the ball, he also clashed heads with a Holyport defender on the way down and came off worse. Jamie came on as his replacement. Play continued at the Holyport end and there was some good passing and team work from Reeves but we could not find a way through the Holyport defence to create a goal scoring opportunity. Then the ball came down our end and although Joshua made an excellent first save he was unable to stop the rebound: 1-4. As play resumed after this goal a Holyport player struck the ball from just past the half way line and it flew into the back of the net: 1-5. Jamie, Max and Jaden battled hard to try and get the play back to down to the Holyport end but to no avail. Then Holyport scored a 6th goal from a penalty after an unintentional hand ball in the area: 1-6. However, Reeves were not finished yet. Sam got stuck in stopping Holyport players as they attacked and firing the ball back down their end of the pitch. Jaden was ready to receive one of the shots and this time he didn’t miss: 2-6. Then, with about a minute to go, Max managed to get the ball and take it down the pitch to get on the score sheet too: 3-6. The comeback had started but unfortunately we were out of time and the match finished 3-6.
Well done everyone on another great team effort against a well organised opposition.
The individual effort award went to Max this week for fantastic determination the whole time he was on the pitch!
Saturday 15th October : Reeves Reds Vs Woodley Saints (match report by Caroline Starkey)
Another unseasonally warm October day and despite our very convincing win over the same opposition in the first game of the season we could not be complacent as Woodley Saints had clearly benefited from their match practice. Max was not available to play this week so the Reeves team consisted of Jamie, Sam, Jaden, Matthew, Christian and Joshua.
Jamie opened the scoring for Reeves with a great goal and Matthew and Jaden also managed to slot in one each. At the other end Sam worked hard in goal and Joshua did a great job in defence to ensure that we had a clean sheet at half time with the score at 3-0.
In the second half Woodley started strongly. Jamie was in goal for Reeves now and made an excellent save early on in the second half however he did not stand a chance as the ball came flying past him less than a minute later to give Woodley their first goal of the match. Jaden then had a great run down the pitch and hit the post before Reeves got back into scoring mode again. Although it was a close fought second half excellent finishing by Christian, Jaden and Matthew saw them each score. A couple of own goals, one at either end, took the score to 7-2 to Reeves with about a minute to go. Then Joshua came out of defence and seized an opportunity to hit the back of the net so that the match finished 8-2 to Reeves.
Well done everyone on a great team effort.
The individual effort award went to Joshua this week for great play at both ends of the pitch.
8 October 2011 vs Holyport Memorial (match report by Adam Thurley)
Saturday the 8th of October saw Reeves Reds take on Hollyport at the Goals Centre in Woodley. The team for the match consisted of Sam, Christian, Max, Jamie and Matthew, who was in gaol for the first half of the match, replaced at half time by Max.
The Hollyport team on first appearance look a very formidable line up with their match boots, managers and supporters coats.
Without a referee this week the two managers agree to step up to the plate with Holly port's manager overseeing the first half. From the off they looked very sharp and scored two goals in the first couple of minutes, one from Will and the other scored by Jamie. The boys realised that this match was going to be a lot tougher than their previous games and as such good defending was going to be critical to stay in the game. Sam was great and on a number of occasions work well with Matthew.
Just before the half time whistle Max has a great opportunity from a free kick which unfortunately hits the post and the ball goes out for a goal kick
Half time and the boys are three goals down, although playing really well.
The second half starts and Reeves continue with the same spirit they ended the first. A few minutes into the half and time out required as Christian, after epic defending, gets biffed and ends up with a nasty nose bleed (fourth of the week). However the tough little man is back out there and pushing up once the bleeding stops.
Down the other end and Hollyport after 25 mins are unlucky, the ball floats across the goal but luckily no one was there to take advantage.
26 mins and Jamie makes an epic run up the left wing, which is halted by a strong defending Hollyport man,
28 mins and Christian has a great attempt on goal, unlucky, today the boys just can't find the back of the net.
30 minutes, full time and 3-0 to Hollyport who started strongly and took the advantage from this.
Effort award this week went to Sam Fry.
1st October vs Burghfield Bears
The blistering heat accompanying our first match of October was matched only by the scorching effort and performance shown by our young team, who again romped home with a convincing win.
Jaden set the early pace with a solid first goal followed by a brace from Christian and a further two from Jaden providing him with an impressive first half hat-trick. By half-time the oppostion had pulled one back , but they failed to capitalise on it as during the second half our team really gelled together producing a cheeky goal from Max, yet another goal from Matthew (who maintained his 100% record of scoring in every game so far) and a stunning first goal of the season for Joshua.
The effort award this week went to Jaden.
Well done yet again boys - keep it up!
